Move from Spendee to Cova

Two steps: export a CSV from Spendee, then preview it in Cova. Your history comes across with its categories intact, and no bank login is ever involved.

Step 1
Export your data from Spendee

Spendee's export lives in the mobile app — it isn't available in the web app.

  1. Open Spendee and tap More.
  2. Tap Advanced, then Export.
  3. Choose all wallets (or just the ones you want), and pick CSV as the format.
  4. Save or share the file to somewhere you can reach it from this phone — Files, email it to yourself, whatever's easiest.
Free Spendee only exports the last 365 days. If you have more history than that and want all of it, you'll need Spendee Plus or Premium for the export — that's a Spendee limit, not a Cova one. A year of history is plenty to start; you can always import an older file later.

Step 2
Bring it into Cova

  1. In Cova, go to More → Advanced → Import data.
  2. Tap Choose File and pick the Spendee CSV.
  3. Tap Preview import. Nothing is saved yet — this just shows you what will happen.
  4. Check the preview (see below), then tap Import.

What Cova does with your Spendee file

Cova reads the Spendee columns automatically — Date, Amount, Note (used as the merchant), Category name, Currency, Type and Wallet. The preview shows this and you rarely need to touch it.

Your categories stay yours

Every Spendee category is brought across as your own — T&O, Sinking fund, whatever you used. If a name exactly matches a category you already have in Cova, the two are merged so you don't get duplicates; everything else is created. Income categories like Salary and Allowance are recognised from Spendee's Type column and created as income.

Wallets

Your Spendee wallet (e.g. Marcus' Wallet) can be created as a new wallet or mapped onto a wallet you already have — the preview asks, so you don't accidentally end up with two wallets holding the same money.

No duplicates on a second import

If you import the same file twice — or a newer export that overlaps an older one — Cova spots the rows it already has and tells you: "720 of 721 rows are already in Cova." Only genuinely new rows are added. You can't double your history by accident.

Foreign transactions use today's rate. Spendee stores the original currency; Cova keeps it and converts to SGD at today's rate, so older foreign rows are approximate. The preview tells you how many rows this affects.

Frequently asked

Will I lose my Spendee history?

No. You're exporting a copy — your Spendee data stays where it is until you decide to stop using it.

Do I need to edit the CSV first?

No. Cova reads Spendee's export as-is. If a column is ever misread, every column is a dropdown you can correct in the preview.

Does this need my bank login?

No. Import is a file upload. Cova never asks for a bank login or your email password.

Stuck? Send us the file

If your Spendee export is not working, email [email protected] and attach the export (or just the first few rows). We will tell you what needs changing — or fix it and send it back ready to import. You do not have to work it out alone.

Last checked: July 2026. Spendee moves its menus from time to time — if yours looks different, email [email protected] and we will update this page (and help you get the file out).
